Horror fans can be classified along three dimensions: Adrenaline Junkies, White Knucklers, and Dark Copers. Dark copers are a newly-identified type of horror fans, who use horror to cope with problems like feelings of anxiety. Adrenaline junkies get a mood boost from the intense experiences of horror.

The cool, detached nature of Analyst personalities also makes them well-equipped to enjoy horror films, as their Thinking trait may enable them to experience the violence, gore, or other thrills and chills more objectively than others might, especially those with the Feeling trait.

The Ring is the American version of Ringu which is based off of the Ring books written by Koji Suzuki. (BTW those books are good as hell).

American remakes of Japanese horror films became popular in the early 2000's after the release of The Ring (2002), based on the 1998 independent film Ringu.
